Be careful Mommy!

For today, I had the most stunning moment in my life when I was in the kitchen. I had a doughnut making session with my eldest son, Sean. I was busy in the kitchen and as usual Sean likes to come into the kitchen to see the progress. So I said to him, "Don't you worry Sean. When the time comes for you to decorate the doughnuts, I will call you into the kitchen."

So after I had the doughnuts ready, and was about to make the glaze mixture, Sean came into the kitchen. To make the glaze, I need to have some icing sugar, vegetable oil and some hot boiling water. And as I was putting the mixture together, Sean said to me, "Be careful Mommy!" I was stunned for a moment. I paused. And I asked him, "Be careful? Why?"

And innocently he answered, "That is hot water right? Be careful ok. Don't hurt yourself ok?"

I was so touched by his concern. I didn't expect that at all. He cares. In the simplest way possible. I didn't know if I wanted to laugh and feel proud of his words, or if I wanted to cry to see how big my son has grown up.

Well, we do know that sometimes there are some little things that could touch a human soul in a way that is never known to them. And sometimes, we take our children for granted. So now, I will pause a while and listen to my children. And feel proud of myself.
